About Anjuna
- Early Days: Ruled by ancient Indian dynasties and wealthy trade-loving sultans.
- Pass the Peri-Peri: The Portuguese invaded in 1510 for spices and stayed for 450 years.
- The Exit: India reclaimed Goa in 1961 during a quick 36-hour military action.
- Hippie Trail: Backpackers discovered Goa’s cheap paradise and empty beaches in the mid-60s.
- Anjuna Vibes: Legendary expats like “Eight Finger Eddie” turned sleepy villages into counter-culture capitals. The travellers blended well into the Goan village life and lived amicably with their Goan neighbours, sending their kids to local schools to become proficient in the local Konkani language, taking to local food. Thus was born Anjunas Wednesday Flea market and the legendary full moon parties, first with accoustic guitars and then going electronic
- The Party: Acoustic campfire jams evolved, eventually creating the pulsing beats of Goa Trance.
- Statehood: Officially became an Indian state in 1987.
- Modern Vibe: Shifted from a secret bohemian hideout to a bustling global holiday hotspot.
- architecture that belonged naturally to its surroundings and Goas history,
Laguna Anjuna was born around the last of these years, and we remember with affection our first guests were the visiting parents, families of these first settlers, later their children, the ones who had grown up here and still returned here year after year. Many of them are prominent artists, musicians and even business people. Rambling old Portuguese style hoses were preferred to characterless concrete blocks and so Laguna Anjuna was created around a 15o year old Portuguese family house, along with a mango tree in its courtyard of the same vintage. It was created as a place where tropical gardens, handcrafted buildings and quiet courtyards become part of everyday life.
Guests often tell us that the hotel reminds them of somewhere they once knew—a grandparent’s home, an old cantonment bungalow, a childhood spent close to nature. The familiar click of black-and-white switches, the cool laterite stone, winding pathways beneath palms and the feeling of being surrounded by greenery awaken memories that modern hotels rarely do.
We believe hospitality is more than efficient service. It is creating an atmosphere where people feel accepted, unhurried and at ease. A place where families reconnect, conversations linger over breakfast, children discover butterflies, and adults remember that not every moment needs to be scheduled.
Our hope is simple.
That every guest leaves carrying back some of the peace they found here, and remembers Laguna Anjuna not merely as a hotel, but as a place where everything felt just as it should.
27 Years Of Homecomings..
Since the 1990s Laguna Anjuna has presented comfort, elegance, and heartfelt hospitality in the best of Goa’s tradition serving the curious, adventurous, world traveller. With the firm position that the greatest luxuries today are Space and Time, we offer an experience of “Sossegado”, a Portuguese word often mistaken to mean laziness. Sossegado is actually a Goan philosophy of a relaxed, contented way of life, taking time to savour and value leisure, mindfulness, family and community over frantic hustle. All elements of design, furnishing, architecture, style, and most of all the simple friendliness of our Goan staff, are in harmony with the concept of timeless Grace.
Turn off the fight or flight response, you are safe and at home here!
